Demetrio Salgado, (1916 - 2000)
Female nude
Oil on Canvas
80 x 60 cm
Private collection
In 1955 he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, a period that marked him deeply. Back in Spain he opens his own workshop, where he mainly works as a poster artist until, in the late 1960s, he begins to reap the success of his painting. His prolific pictorial career he combined for years with his teaching work as Professor of Nudes in the Circle of Fine Arts in Madrid.
His work, deeply personal and intimate, has a sober and silent character. Stresses the use of light, discreetly breaking into the compositions, as well as the use of refined and subtle tones, resulting in complex compositions wrapped in an apparent calm.
His work is exhibited in the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando (Madrid), in the Pinacoteca of the Circle of Fine Arts (Madrid), in the Museum of Fine Arts of Linares (Jaén), among other institutions, as well as in numerous private collections. More on Demetrio Salgado
