Paul Sieffert, born in Paris on November 11, 1874 and died in 1957, was a French painter of nudes and portraits, and also an illustrator. He belonged to the French School.

Paul Sieffert was a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme , Gabriel Guay and Albert Maignan . He exhibited at the Salon since 1894, and at the Society of Friends of the Arts in Bordeaux from 1910 to 1939. He received the First Grand Prix ​​at Rome in 1902, the diploma of honor at the Exhibition of 1937. He was secretary of competition at French artists and member of the committee and jury. Knight of the Legion of Honor , in 1931. Member of the Committee of the Free Society of French Artists . He also exhibited at the Salon d'Hiver from 1910 to 1944.

Jean Veber (13 February 1864 – 28 November 1928) was a French caricaturist and painter.

Jean Veber was born in Paris in 1864. Trained as a painter, he became an illustrator when his brother Pierre urged him to join the staff of the newspaper Gil Blas. In 1897, his drawing depicting Otto von Bismarck as a butcher of his own people caused a major controversy. Some of his caricatures were also published in L'Assiette au Beurre and Le Rire.

Veber volunteered into service in World War I at fifty years of age. He was intoxicated by poisonous gases and demobilized in the course of 1918.

Diane Arbus told stories that had previously gone untold. Disrupting ideas of photographic portraiture, she photographed people who were cast out from the mainstream such as transvestites, nudists or circus  performers. As in Girl in a coat lying on her bed, NYC, Arbus keeps subjects unnamed, but specifies data on their location and activity. She was one of the first to cross the boundary between editorial photography and the museum, establishing photography as a collectible medium.

Unfortunately, she did not live to see her full impact on the art world. A year after committing suicide, her works were shown at the 1972 Venice Biennale, making her the first American photographer to have pictures featured at the event. She’s now considered one of the most important photographers of the 20th-century, with her artworks realizing a total of $2,007,598 at auction last year. More on Diane Arbus

David Nicholson (Canadian, born 1970). Although the style and colour palette of the paintings and drawings of the Canadian-born David Nicholson bear a resemblance to the works of the Old Masters, they are unquestionably modern. Traditional culture juxtaposed with modernity is the starting point for his work. He has no educational background in the arts. He is a self-taught artist who acquired the techniques and aesthetics of the masters of the past, with Peter Paul Rubens, Egon Schiele, and Gustav Klimt as his role models. He finds inspiration in the works and the spirit of the past, which he endeavours to project onto the present. He is interested, among other things, in finding ways to transpose a single element from an old work into a modern painting. The pictorial world of the internet and depiction of women by his role models – Rubens, Klimt, and Schiele – are equally valuable sources of inspiration for his artistic process. This way, he comments on other pieces of art as well as on current topics such as the ideals of beauty, sexuality, and pornography. More on David Nicholson

Edward Henry Weston (March 24, 1886 – January 1, 1958) was an American photographer. He has been called "one of the most innovative and influential American photographers" and "one of the masters of 20th century photography." Over the course of his 40-year career Weston photographed an increasingly expansive set of subjects, including landscapes, still lifes, nudes, portraits, genre scenes, and even whimsical parodies. It is said that he developed a "quintessentially American, and especially Californian, approach to modern photography" because of his focus on the people and places of the American West. In 1937 Weston was the first photographer to receive a Guggenheim Fellowship, and over the next two years he produced nearly 1,400 negatives using his 8 × 10 view camera. His paintings depict fantastical hybrid creatures, and are often erotic. He painted the first of a series of blue women in 1960; among them is the Bain Turquoise.

He was the subject of a film by Alain Resnais, Visite à Félix Labisse (1947). In 1966 he was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Ruth Bernhard (October 14, 1905 – December 18, 2006) was a German-born American photographer.

Bernhard was born in Berlin to Lucian Bernhard and Gertrude Hoffmann. Her parents divorced when she was 2 years old and she only met her mother twice after the divorce. She was raised by two schoolteacher sisters and their mother. Bernhard's father Lucian was a major proponent of Ruth's work, and advised her frequently.

Bernhard studied art history and typography at the Berlin Academy of Art from 1925 to 1927  before moving to New York City to join her father. She began teaching at the University of California in 1958, while also giving lectures, classes and workshops all over the United States. More on Ruth Bernhard
